******YOUTH COURT 100*****

Yes, this did happen 100 years ago, and on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th  March, Leicestershire Magistrates will celebrate the passing of the Children Act 1908 which changed the way young offenders were dealt with dramatically. This is part of a national celebration, supported by the Ministry of Justice and Her Majesty’s Court Service, and run locally by Leicestershire combined Youth Panel and the Magistrates Association.

A mock trial, in period costume and period style will be enacted  by local magistrates at the Old Court in Leicester Town Hall . We will also use sentences of the time-1909! The same offence will then be tried at the new Youth Court in Pocklingtons Walk.

This will be a very visual and high profile event, to which many local community leaders will be invited. The whole family is invited for either day for this interesting, free community event.

“See if you agree with the decision of the court”

The trials will be run on a continuous basis, with the 1909 trial commencing at the Town Hall on Friday 13th at noon,1.00pm, 2.00pm, 3.00pm and 4.00pm, and on Saturday 14th March at 9.30am, 10.30 am, 11.30am, 1.30pm, 2.30pm, and 3.30pm.

There is no need to book, just come along for an interesting hour and a half.
